"Boutique Hotel" Defined?

I came across and article today trying to explain what the term "Boutique hotel" really means. I sort of touched on this in my post about Vancouver's "Boutique" hotels, but I find it interesting this over used term is still being debated. I think in time designers and hotel owners will want to think of new terms to describe their hotel. Especially if they're trying to stand out and be different than all the other "boutique hotels".
